Hello everyone !!

This email is just to apologize to everyone for this long delay with all the pre-orders. I'm talking with my guys in Japan to try and speed this up as fast as they can.

Hopefully vinyl will start to ship from Japan to me within the week and out to you guys ASAP !

Early December Update

Hey MVH fans !!!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all who purchased in on the pre-order for the Clear with guts Ollie. The pre-order was a huge success and, as I write this, the vinyl order has been placed and away we go !!!

I'm hoping to have these ASAP, but will keep everyone updated right here on the MVH blog.

I'm so happy to see how well this release was received, Spasm1 did an amazing job on the illustration and I couldn't be happier.

Next, the pre-orders for both the new Death Sludge Demon and Doji San. Due to unexpected set backs with jointing issues this has taken much longer than expected.

The Death Sludge Demon is now coming out of his second wax casting and heading off to the molding very soon.

The vinyl order has been placed though and once all is good will be processed immediately.

So please hold tight, all is on the way !!!!

Thank you all so much for your patience in this, it really is appreciated very very much.

Now...... December is all about giving back !

I'm proud to say that I was able to take proceeds from the recent clear Ollie release and make donations to both the Cancer Society of America and the Special Olympics !!

November Update

The battleship MVH returns for November !

There is just SOOooooosOOOOOOSoooooooooo much to talk about I decided to break this update into to two separate postings. This posting will be about the new goodies and dates for the new releases planned as well as an update on the Death Sludge and Doji Pre Orders. The next will be a wrap up of NYCC, and the like.

Okay, we good, great, lets get started :)

lets start this part by clearing this up .... by that I mean crystal clear Japanese vinyl !

As of late I have begun to set up collaborations with other artist I respect and have been wanting to work with ( Skinner, BLObPUS, Grody etc..) . This release MVH finds itself working with artist SpasmOne !

I have been wanting to do a paper guts cut out for Ollie for the longest time now. When I came across the work Spasm did for a contest a few years ago I knew that was it. So after a few talks he came up with the idea to print the guts he hand illustrated on clear acetate. Can you say genius !

I'm super happy with the turn out. When the light comes through the vinyl and hits the guts it comes alive. Now, its time to unleash this beast to the world !

This Saturday I will be starting the pre-orders for this crystal clear behemoth.

The Details :

Pre-Orders will begin Friday 11/18/2011 at 5:00 PM and will end Sunday 11/20/2011 at 11:59 PM. This will give everyone more than 48 hours to get their order in.

The curve ball ..... wait for it .....

In addition to this, there will be a chase version. The chase will have different color guts and will come with a half painted fade in MVH color scheme of purple, green black and red !!!

These guys will not be blind bagged, but inserted at random. So there is no guarantee what you will get, but you will get utter gut madness !

The price ... like usual its the good ol $150.00 plus shipping.

For this release its gonna be nice and simple. All you will need to do if head over to our BigCartel in the shopping area >> HERE << and place your order.

Once the pre-order is finished I will be sending the order to Japan Monday morning and will keep an update of when these will go out. Like most pre-orders, these will take longer as the order will be placed and have to be filled. This can take a month or two. This is the only downfall of having your factory overseas, but its Japanese vinyl so you know its worth it !

Next up, the GID BLObPUS Enma !!

I think this guy is gonna make a great companion to the OG BLObPUS Ollie with the blue sprays on GID vinyl. Kaji can seriously do no wrong with Ollie !

Thats it for the big guy this month. But rest assured more plans are in the works for the new year. New arms and heads await, yup I said it !

Speaking of new goodies, how about an update on the new MVH figures.

Both Doji San and the Death Sludgie have made it through the test pull process and unfortunately there where some bugs. The bugs are being solved and should be all set very soon. I apologize for the long delay in this. Its one of those situations that just happens sometimes. I strive to make the best product that I can. So I rather wait just a tad than give you all lest than my best. Your entrusted your hard earned money into my toys and I don't want to let you down !

I really wanted to have these to everyone before December but that is definitely not going to happen. Im so sorry, but rest assured that the boxes are prepped and once they get to me they will all go out the same week !

Now, I did mention test pulls didnt I, would you like to see the pics, sure you would.

This is the first time I laid paint to this guy so its only going to get better once I work the kinks out. Even with that being said, I'm LOVING painting this toy and think the test looks pretty good.

Im thinking to kick this guy off I will be painting up a run of 1 offs on glow vinyl as well as a run. I have been in love with more neo sofubi colors and have some fitting colors ready to roll out on this guy.

I'm so excited to paint this guy and hope you are all as excited as I am.

This weekend I plan on painting up one of the Doji figures so stay tuned for that !

Hello there from the MVH monster dungeon !

Hope this update finds everyone well, and I hope all of you are enjoying your summer so far !

Like usual I have a ton of updates and cant wait to get this party started, so lets get going.

First off I just want to give a huge thank you to Mandarake of Japan. Last month was the first release of Ollie through a Japanese retailer and the results were amazing. The news was that Ollie was a huge hit and sold out on the first day. I couldn't be happier and I'm so stoked with the end results on the yellow vinyl. The Tokyo colorway was just made for Ollie and the secret gold chase was a great opposite to the SDCC Ollie to me.

The Tokyo Ollie was designed to be part of a set with last months BLObPUS Dead Stocker and Sludge Demon set. Take a look !

Next up for releases is this weeks Ollie for Medicom Toy of Japan !

Seriously I'm still amazed that I have been fortunate to be working with Akashi San of Medicom Toy of Japan. For any toy maker this is like being called on by the president. If your not familiar with Medicom then your not a toy collector, period. Medicom has been a blast to work with, they gave me total freedom of color vinyl and choice of color as well as let me design the header. Akashi San is by far a true toy collector and just wants who he works with to do what they do best. Its been a please and I hope you guys enjoy the end result. I hope this is the start of a new friendship between me and Medicom, I would love to do this again.

For the release there will be two figures, 1 being a chase, both being inspired by comic book characters that rock the purple and green.

Purple vinyl with metallic blue and green as well as black, purple, silver and red. This is probably the most colors on a production Ollie I have painted to date, he is loaded.

I love how a simpler paint app really can show of a toys sculpt. This paint app is just that, simple and looks fantastic and right now on my top 3 list of Ollie production runs.

O yeah, the time is here and the new figures are now at the factory and on their way to vinyl as I type. These new guys are just the start of an entire new figure size line and I'm so excited about them !

The Death Sludgie will be my multi body with more heads planned in the future. Same goes for Doji with his masks. Both of these guys I have worked on for a better part of the year. It was nice to take my time and really get the figure size as well as articulation right. I really hope you like them once you see them. I have some really great paint apps planned as well as a nice run of 1 offs for both figures. Im bursting at the seems to get my grubby hands on them !

Speaking of NYCC !!

I'm happy to announce that I will be at this years NYCC at the Lulubell Toy Bodega both !!

Yup I will be there on 10/15 later in the day, the time is yet to be decided but its definitely going down. For NYCC I will have plenty of goodies, I cant say just all of them yet but you can expect your favorite MVH goodies to make an appearance as well as a few collaborations! I'm dying to tell you just what, but where is the fun in that.

A huge thank you to Luke and Amy for the invite. Luke and Amy have been pushing the limits with new figure designs as well as helping our small community grow beyond boarders helping connect western to eastern. They are truly unique in this business and I'm stoked to be part of their showing at NYCC !

Once all details are worked out I will make sure you guys get all the info.

Now how about the first MVH video !!!

I have been working with Walter Parenton A.K.A Iamthefourth on this short video for some time. I was able to tell him what I would like to see and he ran with it. This video is pure genius and I just love it. Seriously its insane, the way he cut in the Joker, come on its just fits perfectly in every way. I must have watched this video now two dozen times now.

These 2 new sculpts I am extremely happy with and I'm eagerly looking forward to. Both the new toys will have special hand made doll eyes that are by far the best that I have ever seen. Your going to be blown away. Not to mention the new Sludgie 2.0 is fully articulated with a moving head ,arms a legs. He will be able to sit which looks very creepy. The size on both are in the mid and small side scale and will fit into collections better for those not into large figures. And for those with my large figures they will form a great fit from size to size !

As for BLObPUS, well what can I say, a 3 eyed god of the dead, does it really get any better ?

Kaji did an amazing job and I can just imagine what his paint apps will look like. You already know they will be some of the most intricate and sinisterly beautiful in the sofubi world.

Kaji will be handling pretty much all sales on this. I may do a run here and there but this is my colab with him and really want him to shine on these.

Now I think this brings us up to date. I will be adding pics for each release as they come and go into further detail for each release when its ready.

The Red Demon release info

This Saturday marks the release of the Red Demon Ollie and MVH family !

There will be 2 options for this release :

1.) Store release :

At 12:00 PM Eastern on 5/21/11 there will be the MVH Family pack which is limited to 5 sets. The sets will be for sale in the MVH store shop area. The set includes 1 Ollie, 1 Sludge Demon and 2 different Doji Sans ( 1 demon mask, 1 cyclops mask ), all painted in the " Red Demon" colorway.

The set will be $350.00 plus shipping, and as usual I will ship world wide.

This family pack will be the only way to grab all figures as none of the Sludgies or Dojis will be sold separately.

As well, this will be the very last US resin Doji San release as the resin sculpt is now retired.

MVH x BEAK is coming this Saturday !

Its finally here !

MVH teams up with monster toy maker BEAK the creator of Kusogon for this special Sludge Demon release !

This VERY limited edition run of Sludge Demons is painted by both John and myself. The moss green vinyl was layered and distressed by John then sent to me. I then added some light sprays to to the face and back as well added the black beards.

Check them out !

In addition to the 4 painted versions there will be 3 unpainted Sludge Demons with a super bright long purple beards !!

Both painted and unpainted will be packed in clear jars filled with dry moss. There will also be an accompanying story written by john stuffed inside the jars as well as a top label on the lid with the MVH logo.

Now as if this wasn't good enough John outdid himself and came up with this 1 and only hand painted Siamese Sludge Demon !

This custom is SICK and amazingly its extremely sure footed, you can pose the arms as you like this guy wont fall over !

By the way I'm hoping to get those arms cast in vinyl for possible future releases, this is just to amazing !

Its amazing to work with a legend once, but an encore as an anniversary release is the icing on the cake. AND in addition to all of this its also on glow green vinyl. MVH now has a new studio space !

MVH is getting bigger and badder for 2011 so I had to pack up and move to new studio which is located in Erector Square in New Haven.

The building is the old Erector Toys building which is now converted into a coulpe hundred artsist studios. Its an old amazing building which I'm happy to be located in. As well I think its pretty fitting to bring back a toy company to an old toy company building.

I'm still getting settled in but its coming along pretty nicely :

New MVH Sculpts for 2011 !

Its only 16 days into the new year and I'm already planning on toys for this year. Yeah I get ahead of my self but I'm a toy nerd so I dont care !

Doji San which was my only resin figure will see the light of day in vinyl come hell or high water. I just love this little guy and it had to be done. I did change the head a tad but thats it and you will also see some new masks. Lets face it the masks are the super fun part about this guy and his personality so there is no way I could leave these out.

The other new toy will be the evolution of the Sludge Demon. Sludge Demon 2.0 code name Oni Zerker is in the works and will be my first fully poseable figure with moving arms legs and head. This will probably see light close to the end of the year as I want to spend some time with the sculpt and just really get it to where I want it rather than rush to get it made.

Thanks to all who came out to NYCC !!

It was amazing to meet some of you in person and a HUGE thank you to all who grabbed something from me. The con is getting better and better and can only see this getting to SDCC sizes in the next few years !

Hey all !!

Its been awhile since I last updated, and most likely from here on out it will be a monthly update due to so so much going on. I guess this is what you call a good problem :)

So lets get to it shale we ..

Recently I finished up my collaboration with Lulubell toys and Yamazakura. I'm so stoked that Yamazakura allowed me to paint his toys.I have been a huge fan of the toy sculpt since it was first introduced. The amount of detail and character that is in this toy is amazing. The way the body is split into two entirely different sculpts but blended so smoothly is so hard to pull off but this toy delivers.

I'm really happy with the way the set came out and if you have not seen them yet check out some images :

Last weekend was the Toxic Catalyst show that was held at Super7. I was able to get just 1 submission done for the show but I'm very happy with the little fella.

Doji San Release info

I'm proud to present MVH's first resin figure, Doji San !

These first official releases are both on milky white resin and are offered in 2 different versions !!

Version 1 ( Demon mask version) = Painted in clear and metallic greens along with silver and black sprays. The demon mask will be painted to match and will have purple doll eyes inserted. The Doji head for this version is also painted in greens with black and red eyes with gold details.

Version 2 ( Cyclops mask version )= Painted in clear and metallic purples along with black and silver sprays. The cyclops mask for this release will come with a green eye. The Doji head for this version is also painted in purples with black and red eyes with gold details.

Each Doji San stands at 4.25 inches tall by 3 inches wide, your standard fight size figure. Each figure is coated in a heavy gloss coating of Monster Kolor. I really feel this coating gives the appearance that is closest to vinyl. As well this coating is very strong and adds a great protective layer. I'm very happy with the outcome and believe you will as well !

I also wanted to mention that each mask is held on by black hemp cord. I think this cord really adds a unique element to this figure. I really love the way the hemp contrasts against the resin. It also allows you to untie and retie the mask as needed without the worry of ever breaking the cord.

Things have been fucking busy here at MVH so I just wanted to post a recap and heads up on whats coming in the next few months. I wont be going into details in this update, so need need to worry ... well just yet. I just wanted to bring MVH back to speed and to get you all ready for whats coming very VERY soon.

Here we go ....

The Recap

- VELOCITRON and BLObPUS collaboration releases - I'm happy to say that both releases sold out in both the US and Japan !!

Both of these colabs where painted just beautifully, I couldn't have asked for more. I really hope to do more with both of these artist in the future. I'm so stoked to say I was lucky enough to have had both paint my toy. Thank you to both artist and to all who purchased, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

- Grinning Death @ Super7 Florida - This was my first visit to St. Pete and I'm already planning a trip back !

Thank you to all who took the time out to make it on over for the event that night. It was a pleasure hanging out and just talking toys. Like many who collect its not everyday that we can geek out and talk about toys.

Hello everyone !

First off I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shown love and support thus far for MVH. I'm so stoked to have you all as fans and I'm so happy to be making toys that you all enjoy so much. This is my dream come true and again I need to say thank you all so so much. I can say this all day but I mean this from the top to bottom of my heart.

Now, in the next coming months its about to get really crazy. I have some amazing surprises coming up and I cant wait to show you all. I have a few amazing artist colabs planned, 2 new vinyl toy concept sculpts that will be revealed and some special coverage in an American magazine we all know very well !!!

With all this I hope to be able to get everyone who has yet to score anything something special very soon. I know its hard to keep checking in when you have lost out on the last 2 lotteries but remember this is just the beginning and I will do my best to make sure you get taken care of. I really hope to have you all as fans for life and will do my very best to make you all happy.

Okay , now, lets start off with the Sludge Demon, next month you will see the next 2 releases of the evil Sludgie. I hope you guys are ready because they will be by both VELOCITRON and the mighty BLOBPUS !!

I also just wanted to let everyone know that $2,500 dollars is my goal but going over is okay. The project is open until May 9th @ 11:59 EST PM. So if the project goes over my set goal it will only allow me to do more for you !

Hey all !

I'm the home stretch of getting Ollie made, and now I'm looking for your help !

As you may know the original sculpt of Ollie the cyclops monster is in Japan at the prototypers office. I'm a tad shy of the amount to get him made,so in efforts to not let this project go to the way side I created a kickstarter account.

If you have not heard of kickstarter, its a service that allows people to make donations in a pledge form to help artist without funding get there projects off the ground. You pledge a donation and if the project gets enough backers and reaches its set goal then you pay. If the project does not make the goal you pay nothing.

Thanks for the massive support and interest in my figure. I will be generating the winners list in the next day and will be in contact soon with details.

Sadly though, I do have to say that there was more than 6 times as many entries as there are figures to go around. So if you do not score in this round there will be many more chances in the coming months.

The time for the official release of the Sludge Demon is coming very soon, I'm super excited and want to thank everyone for the kind words and support ^_^ !

I've been waiting to post up a full recap on this guy from start to finish before the official release. Now that he is in the vinyl stage and soon to be in my hands I think its time to do so.

First off I would like to say that I wish I had some concept sketches, but I just don't. I never actually drew up anything design wise for this guy. Like the Cyclops monster I pretty much just grabbed the clay and started sculpting with the ideas I have in my head.

For the Sludge Demon I knew that I wanted a toy that was smaller in size, but not to small. I knew I wanted it to be organic and free flowing. I knew that I wanted it to have a human face. And I knew that I wanted it to have that Yokai monster feel.

So with this in mind I decided the size I was looking for, and decided where the figures joint would be and got started.

Knowing that I wanted to keep it a simple 2 pieces design, upper body lower body I decided to create the base first. I wanted to have a good solid footing for the rest of the figure to sit on. So I created a rough base, then moved on the the upper body. Once these where established and roughed in I went onto the face.

To me the most important feature on a toy is the face. Its the face of a toy that I connect with first. I had been wanting to create a toy with a laughing Buddha head for quite some time. I saw that the body and all its boils and bumps where taking shape and realized that Buddha head sculpt I had been wanting to make with its huge ear lobes fit with the boils and bumps of the body, it was the perfect fit for this.

Once I roughed the head in, it was all down to the detail now of making it all work and flow together . Adding and taking away until I thought it was as good as I could get it.

I know I made this sound simple, but its much more involved and time consuming than anything else I have done. Through out this process I grew an entire new respect for sculptors and just how hard this can be. It is a very involved process with plenty of rules, as well as a thin line between making the figure just right and going full overboard. With this said, this has got to be the most rewarding endeavor I've done as an artist to date. Sculpting is my new found addiction and I look at all my toys in a new light.

So take a sec and took a look at a picture time line of how this guy became a figure.

Lest go way back to the beginning and start out with the original sculpt.

This is the oldest picture I have, I know its not a total breakdown, but you will get a feel for the changes made from the beginning up until the end.

Now like I said this isn't the earliest baked sculpt, but the earliest images I have. It was at this stage though that he was pretty much close to finish and will give you a feel for what I had described above.

It was from this point that I positioned the upper and lower exactly how I liked and pegged it. From here it was onto small changes to get the upper body and lower body to flow into each other just that much more.

Here are images of the next stage where if you notice the upper body is set back just a tad as well as the additions mentioned above.

Like I said earlier its very hard what to know to remove or add without overdoing it. But it was from this point that I felt happy that my thoughts where exactly as what I now saw in front of me.

The next step was getting this to the right person that knew how to convert this from sculpt to toy.

Out it went and here are images of the wax prototype. You will now see where the prototyper added the joints to the upper body and lower body so that the figure connected where I had planned and was actually able to swivel.

Now these wax protos are used to make the metal molds ( which I do not have images of) . The joints also serve another purpose, this acts as a pour spout for the master toy maker to pour the vinyl into.

As many of you know making some toys in Japan is still a 100% hands on process. Each part is still hand poured and pulled from the mold by an actual human.

I'm VERY proud to say that I have who I feel is one of the best alive making my toys. Its takes years of knowledge to know how to get the vinyl to the proper thickness needed. Its a science that is only learned by feel and practice and of only which a human hand can produce. Its factors like this that makes Japanese vinyl the best product humanly possible. It still amazes me to know this and just what a master of his craft can produce. I feel there is no machine that will ever be made that can reproduce this.

Take a look at the first two toys pulled from these molds. I'm also VERY happy to say that these where also painted by Maruyama-san. In case you did not know hes the producer and who has also painted quite a few RxH releases. It was an honor that he liked my figure so much that he took to time to throw a little paint on them. It was not asked for, he decided to do this on his own and I'm still amazed by this.

The finished toys stands at 3.25 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide by 3.50 round base wise. Its roughly about the size of an apple or tomato.

I really wanted to have a foot stamp like the vintage toys have. This was my first time creating a toy so the stamp came out a little differently that I had planned. But I think with a possible rub these will look pretty wild.

Now you may also notice that in production we made the decision to position the top half back just ever so slightly to help with stance and balance, as well we smoothed down a few of the boils on the lower back almost unnoticeable to avoid possible air bubbles.

Its changes like these that are almost unnoticeable to anyone besides myself, to get this figure just right. Its small stuff like this that no one knows about that help make the toys you collect that much better.

As for now that's it for Sludgie images. At this point all the pieces I have order are in production as I write this and possibly all finished.

First off, I have always been a huge fan of old 70's choppers and the wild paint jobs. A while back I decided that I really wanted to do something with flake vinyl, this was before it was being done by a few toy companies and before I actually had a toy created. Now that is being done a lot I wanted to make my toys a little special. I wanted to incorporate exactly what it was that got me to like heavy metal flake. I have always been a fan of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, the Rat fink and his crazy creations. Roth is what I feel is the originator of crazy flaked American customs.

If you don't know about Roth, please don't let anyone know, just watch this video :

The metal flake that is going into my toys is made by the Roth family, its Eds son "Lil Daddy" Roth brand !

If anyone knows flake its these guys and I feel its a great way to tie in a Japanese vinyl toy with American metal flake.

I also showed the Roth guys a sample of the LARVAGON I did a while back that I used to test a sample of the flake and they loved it.

Here are a few samples of the heavy metal flake that will be infused in crystal clear vinyl :

And clear with a SUPER micro Black metallic dust :

I want to try to bring something new to the flake vinyl toy. I'm really excited to paint these and have some great ideas planned.

In addition to these 4 clear infused, I will also have :

-Crystal clear
-Glow in the dark
-White
- Flesh

And which finally brings me to a release schedule and pricing ....

The first official release will be a run of 25 different 1 offs painted across these listed vinyl bases. The release will be a blind bag lottery.

Each will come with a surprise little package of goodies. limited edition flyer's, prints, tags, all will be bagged with a 1 off header, possibly even more goodies ! Each will sell for $85.00 plus calculated shipping for either US or outside US.

Regular releases will run between $55.00 to $85.00 depending on the run and its contents. Prices vary due to run size as well as, contents, artist releases, or shop colab.

Releases will also vary between lottery, planed date and time, and surprise attack. I would like to make sure that at some point everyone that wants one will definitely have the oppertunity to do so.

I'm very excited to share this new info with all you guys, much more coming soon in the next 2 months. I hope that you all like what you see ^_^

This Valentines Day I will be releasing the first limited run of the MVH Monster Heads !!

These guys are cast in cherry red resin and will be painted with nice subtle sprays. Each Head will come in a clear vinyl box with the newly designed card insert. One last post before the end of the year ^_^

Just the other day I got the Ollie sculpt back for my turn to work. Ricky of VELOCITRON did a wonderful job getting this guy to where I wanted, great work as usual buddy !

I started out by squaring up a few areas that where concerning me and gettting the pose to where I wanted. Sadly though in the process I destroyed the fur that Ricky sculpted. The only good thing was that I able to save the little skull he did, hopefully I can still work that back into what I do.

Its been a long day, and right now I'm super tired so I will wrap this up.

Well its been a pretty crazy year, so much work behind the scenes. I so wish you guys could see just what I have been working on but I'm doing my best to keep some secrets for you. I know at first glance it looks like nothing is happening but I can assure you a lot is in the works !

First I wanted to say a huge thank you to all who bought from the last online sale. I'm in the final stretch of getting the Sludge Demon cast in vinyl and was running out of funds. So again thank you for helping fund the project, its your support that helps create new projects for me !

Hmmmm speaking of the Sludge Demon, yes he is coming along very nicely. I want to show you guys some new images but I have to hold off, you will be happy I promise you. I will however give you guys a tease.

You may know a few months ago I had some test vinyl made with a heavy metal flake I found ( this was before others did it , ahemmmm) to test if it was safe to use. Now that I know that I can use it I have chosen my first 4 choices to be infused with clear vinyl.

I have also decided to double up on the amount of flake that will be used so they will be even much more wilder than the original test pulls.

I have also talked with the manufacture of the flake and they love it and where it will be going, so hopefully in the future I will be able to make some wild new blends !

Next up Doji San.

Doji is now 100% finished and ready to be sent over to the guys at Monstrehero for casting in resin.

Its funny, when I first started sculpting all I wanted to do was sculpt for vinyl. But after my dealings with the MH guys I now have a love for the resin medium.

I had no clue just now nice resin could be when cast by a master. With a little gloss coating it has a glow that is pretty similar to vinyl. As well with the turn around time you can get some prototypes and toy ideas created almost as fast as you can think them up, its amazing.

So I'm happy to say that MVH is not just going to be 100% vinyl toys, we are also gonna have a resin division going forward !

The very first full bodied character is Doji San. I leaked his story a few months back, so if this is your first time seeing him please take the moment and read up.

The eye on the cyclops mask is pretty big, its actually the same size as Ollies eye. Got some nice colors picked out for this mask already.

Now remember, these are images of the actual original sculpt. When this is finished the masks will be attached with hemp cord or possibly glued on. As well I plan on adding all sorts of little stuff like Sake bottles, maybe a staff etc...

I plan on having a lot of fun with this little monster :)

When he is cast I will get you guys more info on what I have planned.

I'm loving sculpting and its nice to finally be able to get this ideas from my mind to real life. So over the next year you will see a nice family of MVH toys develop.

Okay , yeah, now that those are up, how about some character info right ?

As of right now his name is Doji San , but the name may change, who knows right now.

Doji San is an old demon, very old demon, so old that he is very clumsy and weak. He has lost all but 1 tooth, broke off his horn long ago and no hair what so ever. Dojis mind though is sharp as a steel trap, he actually gets smarter and sharper as he gets older. What he enjoys most is instigating trouble between the other demons. Yup Doji San is pretty much a full time ball breaker as thats about all he is capable of doing, or should I say thats all he cares to do. He knows just the right things to say and do to get the other demons all wild up, he get a kick out it.

More story to come :)

Hopefully this will translate to resin well as I would like this guy to be my first full figured resin toy. Keep them fingers crossed if your enjoying the sculpt !

November 1st HUGE MVH Update

Hey all

Well its been awhile since I dropped some new info and I apologize. I decided to hold off on any posting until I actually had some solid releases.

Where to start .... hmmmm how about one of my favorites VELOCITRON !

Ricky just hosted a show this past weekend called " Halloween Massacre" which featured many artist from all around the US and Japan. I'm pleased to say that I was part of this great show, but sad to say due to time all I was able to submit was one piece.

What I did submit though was a gem. I decided to paint up the only factory vinyl sample I received of a test for future MVH glitter vinyl. The vinyl itself is clear and infused was a special metal flake I found right here in the US. This custom is very special as its a 1 off vinyl sample !

Right now I'm in LOVE with the Satan King Walder colorway and with the way the flake makes the vinyl seem yellow was the perfect base for this.

Also in regards to this custom, I will have some LARVAGON keychains for sale soon painted in the same Satan King colors to match this custom made with the same glitter vinyl !

If you recall, Ricky recently sold his batch at Design Festa so some of you may have seen the few he painted in his chosen colors. When I have mine all finished I will post info on when they will be for sale, I cant wait !

Next up Killer J !

Recently my buddy Killer J dropped his new Sarumon figure. The release was all 1 off hand paints ( all awesomely painted if you ask me) and along with the figure you received a poster of the full run as well as a flier for an upcoming show. The upcoming customs show which I'm pleased to say I'm part of is will have the below MVH painted Sarumons. I really really love this new figure from J, the size and texture is amazing.

I was supposed to submit 5 figures for the show (One of them J keeping for his personal collection), but I loved this guy so much I couldn't part with 2 of the 5 so I had to keep them for my personal collection, sorry.

What did make it to Japan you ask, check them out :

And last but not least, the custom that J is keeping for himself. This was commissioned by J in colors he picked out, and I must say great choice of color. I love how this guy came !

What I ended up keeping for my personal collection was the bomb pop homage and my signature purple and green colored version. The orange one in the background is the same that is now in this show.

MVH VINYL !

Yup its now drawing close, the sludge demon sculpt is now in Japan and a week or two away from the prototyper. I'm super excited and I hope you are as well, when this guy is ready I will hold a release of 1 offs just for mailing list members !

I have been experimenting with doll eyes and the MVH head sculpt. I love how it looks and plan on doing a short run very soon so keep your eyes opened ^_-

And speaking of resin, you will be getting another update before weeks out of the first full bodied resin MVH figure !

Yup the heads where a test to see how I liked resin, and thanks to the boys over at Monstrehero I LOVE it.

So now that I have a new found love for resin you will have your first full bodied figure to add to you collection soon. The figure will be based off the yoki character Abura Sumashi. I love thsi character and have been wanting to do something similar in design. I wanted to see what a figured based off of Abura Sumashi would look like if he was a super old Yoki hundreds of years old now, he only has one tooth left, one of his horns if now broken and he is to weak to do any mischief, he just likes to instigate trouble. I think you guys will dig this little old man monster so keep an eye on you mail box !

Today I had a moment to experiment with the unsold MVH resin piece and some doll eyes I had.

A simple dusting of fluorescent red and gold detail along with the eyes totally gives the head an entire new look. All I need to do now is name this , any help with ideas people ?

MVH Sludge Demon UPDATE !!

After taking the last set of pictures I was able to fix some sculpt issues I had, mainly how the top and bottom pieces flowed into each other. Changes where added all around, but If you take a look you will notice that the front has the most amount of change . I carved and added boils to the upper and lower to make a better flow.

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone. Things seem quiet, but behind the scenes its a madhouse !

I could start out with the last few customs I have done but I think you guys may have already seen them, if not please check out my flickr. Customs include BEMON, MG5, Killer J Sarumon, Blobpus Doku and a sweet Mongo lion, all very fun stuff ^_^

If you live in the CT area and are interested in checking them out in person, come on down to a gallery showing on 10/3-4 in New Haven. I will be in my local cities city wide open studios.

he gallery will be at "The English building" 839 Chapel St New Haven CT. I will be there both days from 10 AM to 8 PM. Should be fun, I will be displaying with 3 other great artist. Some free food and free booze to boot, should be a blast.

Incase your confused, yes, the Cyclops figure was supposed to be released first but due to some unexpected complications its still in the sculpting phase. No worries as its still a go and we will see more updates of him soon.

The Sludge Demon though will be out to Japan in the next 2 weeks and off the the factory so if all goes well it will be in vinyl in the VERY short future.

BEMONS are back !

Getting back to catching up on commissions, this BEMON just happened to grab my fancy today, I couldn't resist ^_^

All metallics ! RED, Blue, Green, Purple with some black and hot pink on the back. Maybe I will post a pic of that later.

Also, as of late I have been loving those old adds from comics when I was a kid. Check out the heavily half toned BEMON add I was working on :

Man if I saw something like that in a book as a kid I would have lost it and pestered my parents to death for it !

I was gonna finish the captions and what not for this but decided not to. This is just practice for a special poster I will be making in the not to distant future. Cant wait to show you guys !

I just love real glass eyes now, nothing will substatute them. when you have them in hand and can see how the light flows through the eye you will be amazed. Acrylic eyes just have nothing on these.

Along with this guy I will be sending the Satan King homage Blobpus I did as well. I think the 2 will be a great showing for me. I hope the crowd agrees !

Ollie Re sculpt

After some great great suggestions and conversations I decided to go and take the advise of the crowd and refine the hair a bit for a better flow with the back of the head and horns.

Let me take this moment to break down why the changes where made.

The two main issues that I was most bothered with before where, 1 the hair line, 2 the horns. The hair line, well , it wasn't defined where it began and how it fell on the head. Some hair was pulling back, and some was wrapping in an unnatural swoop around the horns. No matter how I faded it in it just never sat well with me but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks to Ricky for helping me put my feelings into words he mentioned that I should think of how hair would really fall and where is the hair line growing in from. So to make it look more natural I shaved off what was there before and begin to re sculpt a more realistic looking hair line. I also looked at reference images I had of oni in my books and online. None really had hair falling down toward the face. As well most of the hair was either pulled back all wild or balding. I decided to go with a more pulled back feel as it flowed with the back of the head which I loved and in a natural direction. Now it looks more natural and is faded into the forehead much better. There will be no need for a paint mask which is exactly what I wanted.

Second is the horns. Before with the hair as it was it sort looked like they sat on top of the hair instead of looking like they came through as I had wanted.

Now with the new hair line and reference images in hand , I freed the horns from coming out of the hair , but have the hair go around them. Funny as I didnt resculpt the horns what so ever, but they look like I did with the new hair line. The horns look much more natural as you can now see them coming out from the head.

I'm much happier and I hope after you see the progress images you will also.

As well I started work fixing the teeth to round them out more. Knowing that I will have a mask made for them ( the only mask that will be made for this entire figure) I wanted them to look more natural. Also I noticed that there was 1 tooth to many and removed it.

I hope you guys like the changes I made and now understand why they where made.

Hey all

I just want to say thank you to all who bought one or more of the custom Bop Dragons from me yesterday. It was a great success and I hope you all enjoy them once you have them in hand. UPDATE !!

After some wonderful conversations I have seen a few changes that would make the hair line of the cyclops monster much better.

So all images have been taken down and will be replaced very soon with the updated shot of Ollie.

MVH x MH Pt. II

I just love how these resin pieces came out. After a little clean up of the flashing, and some fine polishing these guys really came to life.

Thanks again to the guys at Monstre Hero for the clean castings they where able to produce. Top notch work guys !

I still have to add another gloss coat to the red and green, but I think its safe to say they still look pretty good.

First check out the blue :

I still have a lot to learn as far as getting rid of seems and proper gloss goats go, but I think the finished product right now looks awesome. The clear blue was just to pretty to add paint on. I just love this, it looks like a big jewel.

Next are the purple and pink resins. I decided to add paint to both, but next time I will probably just leave them unpainted and gloss these also. The pink, even though I painted it, was my favorite. I must have carried this guy around with me everywhere I went.

The green painted was originally the purple resin. I added a glitter coat as well as gold, green, silver and purple metallics as well as brush painted detail. This was the first one I painted and got a little crazy with the paint haha. I love it though. I'm getting closer to that wild 70's chopper look that I like.

Last but not least is the bright pink resin. A went with a little less paint on this guy. Metallic red with silver, gold and a touch of blue highlights, and again some brush detail.

Again I have to say thanks to the Sean and Cliff for getting these done for me in my time line. I cant wait to paint more of these !

Things are in motion and moving along very nicely.

Today I was able to really put in some work on Ollie the cyclops monster. I say one more day to add the hair and he is done.

I was planning on holding back a until it was finished, but I figured ..... what the hell.

So far so good, and I want you to notice the bust the head sits on. Its an exact replica of the body which is being finished up as I write.

I know as of late its been kinda quiet over here at MVH headquarters, but as you will soon see its been all business behind the scenes.

Where to start .... hmmm ....

Lets start off with some progress images from the MVH sculpt ^_^

Just got some images of the texture that we added. I LOVE it, kind of like boils ! ewwwwwww

Hmmm funny I just noticed that I never posted shots of the front with full texture, well here ya go.

Now, some of you may notice that there looks like there is some space underneath the feet. I can assure you that the figure is very stable and the gap will be filled in during the next step. Also you may notice the slight forward lean. When the arms are done you will see why, the arms will be down to the floor like a knuckle dragger, and if he was real the weight would make he make have a slight forward lean. The arms will also help stabilize him.

Damn that texture rules !

This bring me to some tests pulls of vinyl infused with the metal flake I sent the factory.

You gotta see this , check it out !

The vinyl is actually crystal clear, but there is so much flake that it gives it a bright yellow tint. In hand its nothing that you have ever seen in vinyl, I can promise you this ! The second shot is a bit out of focus to show off the array of colors in the flake.

The test pull was done with a LARVAGON, which is a killer bonus for my collection, its one hell of a proto !

MVH is going RESIN ^_^

!! MUTANT VINYL HARDCORE x MONSTREHERO !!

Yup, that right I'm dipping my toes into the resin pool.

I loved the original head I sculpted for my toy, problem was is that its to small for the toy and would pretty much end up going to waste.

So in some thought I decided to have it cast in resin for some experimenting with a new metal paint I found. I don't want to get to far into details with my new paint, but it will allow me to actually use real acid patinas, not the faux stuff you see.

So thanks to the amazing guys over at Monstrehero this project will come to life very soon and if all goes well will make its first appearance at the Toy Karma II show in September.

I have been on a homage kick again, and this round of MVH tags is dedicated to Neon Genesis, my favorite anime series of all time.

Possible T-shirt design

Recently I was in touch with Justin of Mondo Tees and we where talking about possibly doing a T-shirt together which is awesome !

Before we go any further I wanted to see if you guys had any interest in this project. The design is what I will be using for the upcoming MVH figure headers which I thought would be pretty cool. Justin feels the shirt will be come out great and be very vibrant which I love ^_^

Please let me know what you think and if you would like one please send me an email. Also mention your size. If there is enough interest I will make a small limited run of them.

Ollie Character reviled ......

Well since no one guessed him, Ollie's character is made up of both Laurel and Hardy from the 1934 version of Babes in Toyland, but you can pretty much choose any of their movies to get a character feeling. The character has Ollies name but for the most part is Stannie in personality. Usually he is the innocent happy babbling Stannie, but when his walnut sized brain kicks in he is the smart ass that is Ollie. He would like to be what he thinks is the smarter of the two which is Ollie so hence the name.

This is just a glimpse into a piece of his personality. There is much more story to Ollie, which is still to come, you must remember that in the end he is still a monster, with monster habits.

Pic of the day !

I was working on Ollie this morning, started to work on the teeth which I think will end up being a bit wider for paint reasons. Stared to smooth out some of the skin and round out the head as well as sunk in the eye a bit. Still a lot more to go but its slowly taking shape.

I was planning of baking the head in the next day or so but decided to hold off until I get the proper eyes.

The eyes for this guy will all be custom made from a little company I found. They make some of the craziest eyes I have seen as well as accommodate customs designs but are made in odd sizes. The eyes will be the same style as pictured above though, soft glass. This style of eye just brings the toy to life. Give him a really creepy feeling. When these are finished and you have one in hand you will see. My dog cant look at him, it freaks him out.

**BONUS **

In the end this guys name will be Ollie or Olliver, I based the name off a very old child's movie my father used to put on during the holidays that I LOVED (still do). My guy is based off the character from this movie, can you name said film ??

Starting to see face

Today I was able to begin working on one of the 2 heads for the MVH body sculpt. There is a LONG way to go but take a look at a very rough sculpt of head #1

A lot needs to be cleaned up and adjusted as well as hair, ears and horns will be added. I'm hoping to have him finished by the weekend.

This head is being created after this illustration I made awhile ago.

Change will be that you wont see the lower teeth and the horns will be smaller.

Yes its been a while since I've shown some progress on the first MVH sculpt. But today I got word from my sculptor that its back to business and things are moving along very nicely.

Take a look at the progress shots , I LOVE The texture and couldn't be happier !

MVH news

I have recently been asked what was going on with the MVH figure. Well, good news, I have spoken with my sculptor and we have some dates. The figure from the neck down should be finished by 7/1/09. After that a bust of the neck area will be sent to me so I can finish the heads, the heads should take me the better part of a month to get 100%. After that its back to Japan for the finishing steps and should be ready and vinyl mid August.

So good news, and I hope you are all still excited as I am. I just wanted to let you know that although it has been quiet, MVH is still going strong and progress is definitely being made behind the scenes ^_^

Sorry for the late delay on shipping of the Evil Count Barnaby lucha bears. I had planned on having them finished and shipped off by last weekend. I guess I sort of underestimated just how much masking and brush work I had to do. Not to mention I realized just how much OCD I have to get them all as close to exact as possible. So now they are 95 % finished and and all will be shipping on Monday 6/8/09.

Sorry for the delay, but I refuse to let any of them leave my hands until they are all up to my standards.

Recently I was invited by Kajimura-san of Blobpus to partake in the upcoming Kaijin show at Kaiju Blue. I must say that its a serious honor to be personally invited by Mr. Blobpus himself and I'm still a little in shock.

This was my first time seeing this figure in person. Honestly at first it was one of the figures that I just kinda passed over as to date none of the colorways have grabbed me. Once getting him in hand it was a total mind change. The figures size is just perfect ,the weight and vinyl quality are perfect and add to its personality. It seems a lot of thought and time went into this guy and it shows, if your on the fence about getting one I would say go for it you will be pleasantly surprised. After seeing this guy and being able to work on him I'm a believer !

I really wanted to keep this as simple as I could, yet still be vibrant and have some added paint texture. I held back from doing a lot of brush work between the feathers and I hope it doesn't take away from the overall feeling or my style of painting. In hand some of the colors look different, the pink is a bright hot pink and the green has a spray of silver across it. No matter what I didn't in a controlled setting I just couldn't get them 100%, I really need a better camera.

I'm happy and if it doesn't sell I have no problem keeping him in my collection ^_^ , I hope you guys like !

Mindstyle baby !

Recently I was asked by Lev of Toy Tokyo to paint up a stitch for the upcoming Mindstyle stitch project.

While painting western toys usually isn't my thing, I was pleased to be invited and did my best on this huge chunk of vinyl. I know there are many western toy artist whose work is amazing, I just hope mine holds its own with them.

After seeing this guy in hand and thinking it through Kappa was the first thing that came to mind. Its just fits the sculpt so well in my eyes.

The bloody damaged version of the Lucha Bear takes a real turn from the original frolicsome image of this vinyl character. The result has a real impact on the viewer.

レスラーのソフビとなると
シチュエーション的にありそうなところです。

However blood splashed vinyl figures are commonplace in the vinyl toy world and if we have wrestling characters it is likely some will be depicted like this.

This weekend was Design Festa in Japan at Tokyo Big Site. I had no clue that Kazu san of Itokin Park would be displaying and selling his new lucha bears this weekend. Thanks to Andy of Kaiju Korner I was pleasantly surprised with some awesome pics of the entire event as well as great coverage of the Itokin Park booth.

Due to an overwhelming demand, the bop dragons have been pushed back to 6/13/09 for what is left of the remaining regular release. As well, 6/20/09 and 6/27/09 for the seven 1 offs. I hope this helps those that needed the extra time.

Executive decision

I started work on the Bop dragon run today, I went with my gut and added a bit more purple to the the overall figure as well as changed the eye color. The reason behind the changes are better design and color palette wise. It looks better than ever and I hope you trust me and my judgement in the decision. Bop Dragon update Pt. II

Pre-orders for the the metallic Bop Dragons are now closed.

Don't worry though if you didn't score, there are still some available and you will have a second chance to get one.

I would like to save a few for when they are all completely finished to give others the time to save up a few bucks that don't have it right now.

Once they are done, this includes the 1 off, I will post info and a time on when to score.

I just want to say thanks to the massive support and emails so far !!

As of right now, the pre-orders are halfway to sold out.

So I just wanted to say that if your thinking about getting one please get in contact with me ASAP me before they are all gone. These are all that will be sale and once they are gone thats it.
